Anxiety is often influenced or exacerbated by multiple factors: genetics, modeling from childhood, traumatic experiences, lack of balance in work/play/family/friends, excessive stress, worrying, and other anxiety provoking habits.

Consequently, anxiety reduction must really involve a holistic approach.  Join us for the next Conquering Anxiety Group to learn the many ways you can begin to take better care of your body, mind, and spirit to reduce anxiety.

We say about anxiety that it tends to hang out either in our past or in our future.  Anxiety is rarely right here, right now.

We get anxious when we ruminate about things in our past.  We might worry about something we said, we might feel disappointed in something we did or didn't do, or we might replay something someone else did or said over and over. These habits are a sure-fire way to create and perpetuate anxiety.  Though we might understand logically that we cannot change the past, we are typically not thinking with our logical mind when we worry or ruminate about the past.  We may be unaware that we are ruminating, or we may tell ourselves that we are doing something productive when we think about the past. We aren't.  Unless we're thinking about positive memories, or thinking/learning/planning about what we will do in our future based upon what we learned in our past, hanging out in yesterday is generally not good for us.

Similarly, anxious people tend to worry about their future. A lot.  This creates anxiety because, just like the past, we rarely have control over the future other than how we choose to behave. We cannot control the weather, the reactions of others, the traffic, or whether or not someone likes us.  We do have tremendous influence over our own thoughts and behaviors, however.  So, if we are thinking about the future and not either making plans for our own thoughts or behavior or preparing ourselves in some way, hanging out in the future leads to anxiety.

If we can work to be more mindful, and practice staying in the current moment, we can significantly reduce our anxiety.  When we let the past or the future hijack our thoughts, we end up with anxiety, and we miss out on a lot of life.  Beautiful, amazing things are always happening right in front of us, so don't let anxiety steal them.  Be here, now, and feel a lot better.

Take back your life from anxiety's grip by doing something positive in this moment- join our next Conquering Anxiety group, 6/15/11-8/3/11.  Register here.

Here's what some of the recent Conquering Anxiety participants have said about their experience:

-I gained amazing insights and grew tremendously as a result of this workshop.  The support and sense of universality have been priceless.  The content has opened the door to a brighter future for me.

-This workshop is very helpful for people wanting to work through fears and worries.

-A must for every living being!  Our world is full of stress and anxiety and this class would help us all to be better prepared when life is difficult and to live fully with greater joy and peace.

-This workshop helped me to understand the ins and outs of anxiety much better. But most of all, it gave me lots of tools to use on a daily basis to lessen and get past my anxieties.

-Push yourself to learn and grow.  The 8-wk program will fill in gaps and help you further progress in your journey.  Trust in the process and be sure to participate fully.

-You are not alone! You will learn how to deal with difficult people and situations in your life.

      -Mind-opening!

-I'm seriously considering taking this again. Every single person can benefit.  The facilitators ROCK!

-This workshop helped me to feel that I am not alone in the world of anxious feelings and to better recognize anxious thoughts and be able to intervene before they play a negative role in my life.

Anxiety reduction: work on saying "no" 02/12/2011
      0 Comments

People who suffer with anxiety generally struggle with saying "no."  Whether it is" no" to another volunteer project into an already over-stuffed schedule, or "no" to the friend or loved-one who oversteps their reliance or quota of favors, or "no" to the boss who has no idea you're already feeling maxed out at work, anxiety sufferers struggle to take care of themselves.  When we stretch ourselves so thin in service of others, our bodies let us know by developing anxiety.  We need to learn to say "no" and take care of ourselves.  Much like the air masks on an airplane, we simply cannot be the friend, lover, spouse, parent or employee we want to be without first taking care of ourselves.

Learn how your allergy to "no" may be perpetuating your anxiety.  Join our next Anxiety group, 4/13/11 - 6/1/11, Wednesdays, 8 weeks.  http://www.denveranxietyhelp.com/conquering-anxiety-registration.html

      No more scary stories! 12/07/2010
      0 Comments

People who struggle with anxiety are usually quite skilled in telling themselves frightening stories about what might happen.  Isn't it interesting that when we tell ourselves stories about what the future holds, they are usually scary stories?  Rarely do we tell ourselves calming, relaxing, and positive stories.  The scary stories almost never come true, and we exhaust ourselves with anxiety when we tel them.

Join us in our next Conquering Anxiety workshop to begin to identify, stop and correct your spooky story-telling.  Our next group begins February 2, 2011 in our brand new, beautiful office space.  Call for more information: 303-770-0940 or visit www.DenverAnxietyHelp.com
